Clifford Chance has advised MUFG Securities EMEA and MUFG Bank on a series of transactions designed to expand Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group’s structured notes business outside Japan. t
According to an announcement published by Clifford Chance on 27 August 2026, the work included establishing a US$4.6 billion structured notes issuance programme for MUFG Bank. The programme is intended to support the issuance of a range of structured note products across multiple international markets.
The law firm also advised on subsequent changes to the programme, including an expansion of its geographic scope, as well as updates to MUFG Securities EMEA’s existing note programme to facilitate the issuance of equity- and index-linked products.
The transactions form part of MUFG’s efforts to broaden its structured products offering to institutional investors and clients across EMEA and Asia outside Japan. The initiative also supports the continued development of the group’s international markets and funding platform.
Clifford Chance said the mandate involved lawyers across a number of jurisdictions, including Tokyo, London, New York, Singapore, Hong Kong, Beijing and Dubai.
The matter was led by Tokyo partners Leng-Fong Lai and Matthew Ball, with support from lawyers across the firm’s debt capital markets, structured products and financial regulatory practices.
